WWII

WWII was the most devastating conflict known to man, and is thought to have killed over 60 million people(60,000,000) from 1939 to 1945! Unfortunately, many of those deaths would be civilian ones, as many countries experimented with new weapons, like fire bombs, nuclear weapons and strategies like Blitzkrieg.

When WWI ended in 1918, the allies, who had beaten the axis, imposed the highly unfair treaty of Versailles upon mainly Germany, who had not started WWI, but had been a main agressor. France wanted Germany to not have the military ability to start a new war, whereas, Britain and the USA thought this could lead to another war. Eventually, France got its way, as it had been the worst affected by Germany's agression. The terms of this treaty were as such:

• For Germany to surrender all territiories of Germany's to the League of Nations
• For Germany to accept all responsibility for the war
• For Germany to de-mobilize their army, lower it to 100,000 men, divided into 7 infantary and 3 cavalry divisions, destroy or sell all tanks, planes and heavy guns, limit their navy to 6 light cruisers, 12 destroyers, 12 torpedo boats and no submarines.
• For Germany to repay the allies for the expense they cost them, namely 20 billion (20,000,000,000) gold marks, the German currency
• For Germany to allow the Rhineland, a section of Austria to be militarized by the allies for 15 years, followed by a seperate 5 year period, when it would be slowly demilitarized.

As germany struggled to pay back the allies, they decided to print more oney to speed up the process. This got so out of hand, they ended up entering hyper-inflation, where money becomes worthless.
